Baseball Recap: Oakwood Continues Home Dominance on Monday

With a playoff win on the line, Oakwood rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman Buffaloes. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Xander Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oakwood is 7-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 10-11 otherwise. Wilson was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Weston Frazier, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryson Marcinko, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Oakwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Oakwood pushed their record up to 17-14 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-21.

Looking ahead, Oakwood will take on Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
