Adams City is 0-10 against Skyview since December of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Adams City Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Skyview Wolverines at 6:30 p.m.
Adams City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gateway on Thursday. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Despite their defeat, Adams City saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Arianna Blue, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine steals, was perhaps the best of all. Evelyn Reyes was another key player, putting up six points in addition to 15 rebounds and six blocks.
Even though they lost, Adams City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Skyview had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. They really took it to the Trojans for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-12 win. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Trojans are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Adams City better keep an eye on Nevaeh Lucero. She was instrumental in Skyview's win, going 10-for-15 on her way to 21 points and eight steals. They are 16-2 when Lucero posts three or more steals, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Yzabella Tafoya, who posted 15 points along with seven boards and five steals.
Skyview's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.9 points over those games. As for Adams City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.
Adams City was taken down by Skyview 64-25 when the teams last played two weeks ago. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Adams City was down 38-8.
