Iroquois is 0-3 against Frontier since April of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Redhawks will venture away from home to take on the Falcons at 11:00 a.m. Iroquois will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Iroquois earned a 9-5 victory over Lancaster.
The team relied heavily on Dominic Pasek, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Fragale, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Frontier's hitters rose to the challenge against a Bulldogs pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.92 runs allowed on Friday. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hamburg 10-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Ethan Hediger was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has become a key player for Frontier: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Hediger was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Jacob Hudson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Frontier is undefeated when Hudson posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Sullivan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Frontier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Iroquois pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Frontier, their record is now 7-5.
Iroquois' speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Redhawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Frontier, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Iroquois continue to outrun the ball?
