Lee Christian had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-15 to make it 12. They came up short against the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles, falling 18-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 11-1 defeat last Tuesday.
Lee Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Wilson, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Cape Fear Christian Academy's side, Jackson Barber and Taylor Smith were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Barber pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Smith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Barber a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Barber went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Smith got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Conner Parrish was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Cape Fear Christian Academy is undefeated when Parrish posts one or more home runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Parker Mclamb, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Lee Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cape Fear Christian Academy, they will square off against Crossroads Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 13.1 runs per game this season.
