Baseball Game Preview: Laguna Hills Hawks vs. Laguna Beach Breakers

Laguna Hills has won three straight games at home, while Laguna Beach has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Hawks will welcome the Breakers at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Laguna Hills 2.6, Laguna Beach 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Laguna Hills' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Costa Mesa by a score of 3-0. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Not much got past Nic Park, who gave up just three hits to keep Costa Mesa off the board. Park also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Laguna Hills is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Laguna Hills saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Medina, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Damian Youngman was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Laguna Beach unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Northwood by a score of 2-1.

Becker Sybirski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Laguna Hills' victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Laguna Beach, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 18-3.

Laguna Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Laguna Beach when the teams last played back in February of 2022, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Breakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
