Boys Ranch hasn't had much luck against Booker recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Boys Ranch will be playing in front of their home fans against Booker at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Boys Ranch put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They put the hurt on White Deer with a sharp 23-8 win. Considering the Roughriders' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Cam Yarbrough made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. Yarbrough was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.
In other batting news, Boys Ranch got a massive performance out of Josiah Quatman, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Carter Esteban, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Boys Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Booker waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 19-15.
Like Boys Ranch, Booker also got a great game from a two-way player: Chase Nelson. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Nelson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Booker: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brayland Gonzales was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Booker is undefeated when Gonzales posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Xavier Aguilera was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Boys Ranch's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Booker, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Boys Ranch suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Booker in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Boys Ranch avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
