After soaring to 55 points the game before, the Berthoud Spartans were a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They lost to Fossil Ridge on the road by a decisive 42-25 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Berthoud has scored all season.
Berthoud's loss came despite strong showings from Avery Pfohl and Ella Strait. Pfohl scored eight points along with three steals, while Strait scored no points along with two steals. Pfohl is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.
Berthoud struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Fossil Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalie Lin, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals. Lin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Ava Hurlbut was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Berthoud's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Fossil Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Berthoud will be playing at home against the Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Eaton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Fossil Ridge, they and the Lambkins will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fort Collins will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
