The Irene/Wakonda Eagles's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hanson Beavers at 6:15 p.m. on December 29th. Irene/Wakonda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Dakota Rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Hanson is ranked 38th).
Irene/Wakonda struggled with threes last Tuesday (Wynot had six more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Irene/Wakonda had to suffer through a rough 78-31 loss at the hands of Wynot. Irene/Wakonda has not had much luck with Wynot recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jens Hansen, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Hansen, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Hanson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 58-51 win over Lyman.
Irene/Wakonda bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hanson, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Irene/Wakonda beat Hanson 65-57 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Irene/Wakonda since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
