The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions entered their tilt with the Green Valley Gators with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Sierra Vista snuck past Green Valley with a 41-35 victory on Thursday. That's another feather in the cap for Sierra Vista, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sierra Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donnayja Gibson, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Gibson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lane, who scored six points.
Green Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Gianessa Vazquez and Jazmine Ramirez. Vazquez scored 15 points, while Ramirez scored 11 points along with three steals. Olivia Patai was another key contributor, scoring two points along with two steals and two blocks.
Green Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sierra Vista pulled down 21 offensive rebounds.
Sierra Vista's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Green Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sierra Vista won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Doral Academy Red Rock at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Doral Academy Red Rock will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Sierra Vista is ranked 28th). As for Green Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Western at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Western focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
