The Northfield Nighthawks will challenge the George Washington Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Northfield took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Centaurus 6-4.
Jackson Taylor looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Jack Phiel was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Ryder Wicks was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, George Washington never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Kennedy 20-0. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Commanders: they've now won eight in a row.
Alex Sieren looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Diego Varela was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Rocco Citrone, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
George Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only managed one hit.
Northfield now has a winning record of 2-1. As for George Washington, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like George Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Northfield came out on top in a nail-biter against George Washington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. Does Northfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will George Washington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
