The Lugoff-Elgin Demons pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 76-55 defeat at the hands of Sumter. Lugoff-Elgin lost against Sumter in their previous head to head back in January of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-38 score last time.
Despite the loss, Lugoff-Elgin still got an impressive performance from Nigel Chivers, who scored 39 points. Those 39 points set a new season-high mark for Chivers. Tyquawn Murphy was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Lugoff-Elgin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Lugoff-Elgin bumped their record down to 3-5 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sumter, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.
Lugoff-Elgin will head out on the road to face off against Camden at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sumter will be home for the holidays to greet Crestwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crestwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sumter in South Carolina (Crestwood is ranked second, while Sumter is ranked 83rd).
