Calais hasn't had much luck against Mattanawcook recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Devils will face off against the Lynx. Calais' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Mattanawcook's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Calais is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Mount View.
Noah White made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Calais let Brock Collins and Brayden Ellsmore run wild. Collins got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ellsmore went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Collins has posted since back in May. Another player making a difference was Isaac Downing, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Mattanawcook never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Houlton with a sharp 18-0 victory. The Lynx might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Avery Jordan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Jordan was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Isaac Ritchie and Jacoby Savage did most of the damage at the plate: Ritchie got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Savage went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Noah Phelps was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Calais has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Mattanawcook, their record is now 13-3.
Calais couldn't quite finish off Mattanawcook in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 2-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
