The Coastal Academy Stingrays will head out on the road to face off against the Santa Fe Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Coastal Academy got the win against Escondido by a conclusive 13-3. The victory continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Ava Alvarez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Delylah Ordman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe Christian). They never let Francis Parker get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Kayla Emond and Torin Bennett made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Emond tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Bennett pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Emond scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Bennett went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Bennett has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Muscat, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maya Tyszkiewicz, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Santa Fe Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Coastal Academy's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Fe Christian, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Santa Fe Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coastal Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .522. It's a different story for Santa Fe Christian, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Coastal Academy's hitters?
Coastal Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Fe Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will Coastal Academy repeat their success, or does Santa Fe Christian has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
