I Section III recap Oct. 16, 2012
Pinnacle was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in I Section III. Earlier in the week, the Pioneers triumphed over Boulder Creek 27-7.
Mountain View extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Highland, 28-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Tyler Bruggman threw for 191 yards and four touchdowns. He went 13-20 with zero interceptions.
Robbie Millward was the best wideout in the league this week as Mountain View defeated the Hawks. Millward tallied four receptions for 111 yards. Hansen Williams helped Mountain View's passing attack out by catching five balls for 52 yards.
Jared Melson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as O'Connor lost to Mountain Ridge. He completed 10 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 11 yards. Melson's favorite target this week was Brandon Bohen, who caught two passes for 92 yards.
Michael Harlan made the biggest impact on defense this week as Pinnacle topped the Jaguar. The 6-foot-2 senior pulled down two interceptions.
Daniel Fedorka was the most productive running back in I Section III this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 149 yards as Desert Mountain bested Highland. Teammate Joe Duran added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
The Wolves' Kyle Allen and Mark Andrews have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Allen has thrown for 1967 yards this season, while Andrews, a 6-foot-6 receiver, has 55 catches for 1041 yards. Dana Zupke's team's Josh Hoekstra leads the league in rushing yards with 1212.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Pioneers and Desert Mountain. Pinnacle enters the game ranked 17th in the state, while Tony Tabor's team ranks 14th.
The Wolves' Allen is within 33 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Pioneers.
The Mountain Lions' Treshawn Favors needs only 75 yards against Westview next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Favors has rushed for 925 yards on 172 carries so far this year.
Mountain Pointe took down Kofa 70-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
