The Sun Valley Spartans were the 54-50 winner over the Monroe Redhawks when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Sun Valley fell just short of Monroe by a score of 43-41.
Devin Sumpter and Nathan Tavares certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Sumpter dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, while Tavares scored seven points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Monroe can attribute much of their success to Kaegan Chambers, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Micah Allen, who scored eight points.
Sun Valley bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Monroe, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Sun Valley is on the road again on Friday and play against Cuthbertson at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Cuthbertson is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Monroe, they will be playing at home against Piedmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 60.2 points per game, Piedmont has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
