1A District 7 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Southern Lab extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 7 this week by beating Varnado, 41-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Kittens.
Archbishop Hannan made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,090 from 9,255. The advance stemmed from a 49-0 victory over Mt. Hermon last week.
The Hawks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bruce DiMartino threw for 77 and two touchdowns and Kyle Sewald had 49 yards receiving. On the ground DiMartino chipped in 94 yards. Jason Brooks helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching two balls for 15 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Tavarious Battiste of Kentwood is the league leader in passing yards this season with 787. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Archbishop Hannan's Michael Froeba has rushed for 694 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brooks. The Archbishop Hannan star has 39 catches for 380 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Kentwood takes on second place Southern Lab. Last week, the Kangaroos bested Christian Life, while Southern Lab topped the Wildcats.
