Granada Hills Charter is a perfect 10-0 against Cleveland since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Highlanders will welcome the Cavaliers at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Granada Hills Charter has five straight wins, Cleveland has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Granada Hills Charter's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Chatsworth. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won 12 games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Zoe Justman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jocelyn Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Granada Hills Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in five consecutive contests.
Taft hit Cleveland with a seven-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cavaliers took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Toreadors.
Jessica Van Zyl was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kiara Orellana, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Granada Hills Charter's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Cleveland, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
Cleveland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Granada Hills Charter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Cleveland, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Granada Hills Charter's sizable advantage in that area, the Cavaliers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Granada Hills Charter took their victory against Cleveland when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
