Alcoa has gone a perfect 10-0 against Gatlinburg-Pittman recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Alcoa Tornadoes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. Alcoa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Gatlinburg-Pittman is facing Alcoa at the wrong time: Alcoa suffered their first home loss of the season on Friday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell 7-2 to the Lions. The match marked the Tornadoes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Alcoa got a good showing from Mason Martin, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Myles Cox made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
Meanwhile, Gatlinburg-Pittman fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against West Greene on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buffaloes by a score of 11-10. It was the first time this season that the Highlanders let down their fans at home.
Rylan Rad was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Cutshaw, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Even though they lost, Gatlinburg-Pittman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Gatlinburg-Pittman's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Alcoa, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Alcoa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gatlinburg-Pittman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Alcoa took their win against Gatlinburg-Pittman when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 26-0. Will Alcoa repeat their success, or does Gatlinburg-Pittman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
