North Davidson has gone a perfect 6-0 against West Davidson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Black Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (North Davidson 3.7, West Davidson 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
North Davidson is returning to their home field after beating Ledford on theirs, despite the fact Ledford has dominated at home this season. The Black Knights came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Black Knights have posted against the Panthers since April 22, 2021.
Rileigh Barker made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Barker was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Heidi Barker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Summer Sheek, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.
North Davidson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, West Davidson came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 6-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like North Davidson, West Davidson also got a great game from a two-way player: Hannah Rollins. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Rollins has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Gracie Michael and Abigail Leonard did most of the damage at the plate: Michael went 3-for-4 with one home run, while Leonard went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
North Davidson has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for West Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Davidson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like West Davidson struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Davidson took their win against West Davidson in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Black Knights repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
