If the Collegiate Spartans were feeling good off their 65-45 takedown of the Clearwater Indians last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Collegiate took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Emporia.
Emporia had a senior duo take command as Sheldon Stewart scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and Cooper Rech scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stewart has scored all season.
Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 4-4-1. As for Emporia, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Collegiate won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against El Dorado at 2:30 p.m. on January 19th. El Dorado is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. Emporia won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kapaun Mt. Carmel at 12:00 p.m. on January 19th. Kapaun Mt. Carmel knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Emporia likes a good challenge.
