Andrea Salcedo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
In other batting news, Del Valle let Julianna Santos and Yallena Morgan run wild. Santos went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Morgan went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Santos has posted since back in February. Minaya Felix also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Del Valle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are 16-2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Parkland waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 11-4 victory.
Samantha Martinez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Stephanie Flores was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emily Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Del Valle's record is now 19-10-2. As for Parkland, their record now sits at 17-12.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Del Valle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .529. However, it's not like Parkland struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Del Valle came out on top in a nail-biter against Parkland in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Conquistadores since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
