The Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES will square off against the Bermudian Springs Eagles on Thursday. Mount Carmel is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Mount Carmel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Dunmore a 5-0 shutout. The RED TORNADOES' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
The result came thanks to Drew Yagodzinskie's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jon Morgante and Brody Brinkash did most of the damage at the plate: Morgante went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Brinkash went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Morgante has posted since back in April.
Bermudian Springs came out on top against Neumann-Goretti on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
Branson Diller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lane Hubbard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Jasxyn Stottlemyer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Bermudian Springs' win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Carmel, their win bumped their record up to 18-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Carmel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bermudian Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
