The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles won the last time they faced the Covenant Christian Warriors, and things went their way on Friday too. Guerin Catholic came out on top against Covenant Christian by a score of 44-34. Given Guerin Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Covenant Christian is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Guerin Catholic to victory were Robert Sorensen and Bryson Cardinal. Sorensen scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Cardinal dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Cardinal has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Murans, who scored six points.
Despite the loss, Covenant Christian still got an impressive performance from Mell Grandberry, who scored seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Rudolph, who scored six points.
Guerin Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Covenant Christian, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guerin Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. One thing working in Cathedral's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Covenant Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Christel House at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Christel House will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
