The Lutheran Lions pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-60 to Mojave. While losing is never fun, Lutheran can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 57th in Colorado, while Mojave is ranked fourth in Nevada).
Despite the loss, Lutheran had strong showings from Braydon Jacob, who scored 29 points, and Hunter Caldwell, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kade Speckman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Mojave was led to victory by Zacarrion Jackson and C.J. Shaw. Jackson scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals, while Shaw scored 33 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. The game was Shaw's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Luna, who scored 4 points.
Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Mojave, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Lutheran will head out on the road to face off against Cimarron-Memorial at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mojave will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Shadow Ridge at 1:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Shadow Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three matchups.
