Hoggard is 10-0 against the Pirates since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Hoggard Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Topsail Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Hoggard has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three contests.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Hoggard ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They slipped by West Brunswick 56-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Jayzion Davis was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Malakahi West, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Topsail pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a rough 76-56 loss at the hands of North Brunswick. While losing is never fun, Topsail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Scorpions are ranked 94th).
Hoggard's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Topsail, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Everything came up roses for Hoggard against the Pirates in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 75-41 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
