Baseball Recap: Richmond Hill Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Richmond Hill barely beat Bayside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Commodores on Saturday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Dwan Fernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Malachi Butler tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Abel Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Marte, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

The victory (which was Richmond Hill's third in a row) raised their record to 9-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bayside, they moved to 5-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richmond Hill will host Newtown at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bayside, they will face off against Francis Lewis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Commodores' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
