Baseball Recap: Bowman Academy Comes Up Short

Bowman Academy had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it five. They lost 16-4 to the East Chicago Central Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 back in April.

As for East Chicago Central, they moved to 7-10 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

For East Chicago Central's part, Christian Rios and Victor Rivera made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rios didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rivera tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rios also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Chicago Central is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. At the plate, Rios went 2-for-3 with five RBI, while Rivera got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Rios a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jackyln Becerra was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Deivion Cox, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Bowman Academy is taking a road trip to face off against South Bend Career Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Trailblazers at the right time seeing as the Trailblazers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for East Chicago Central, they will host 21st Century Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.8 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
