Basketball Recap: Preston Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Preston Knights didn't have quite enough to beat the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs and fell 56-54.

When it comes to explaining why Preston lost, don't look at IsaBella Miller. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and three steals. Miller has become a key player for Preston: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 5-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Nazelrod, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Preston was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tygarts Valley only seven assists.

Tygarts Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Summer Lewis-Smith out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most boards Lewis-Smith has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Defibaugh, who had ten points and six rebounds.

Preston has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. Tygarts Valley's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-8.

Preston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-30 defeat against Lewis County on the 24th. As for Tygarts Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-22 win against Harman on the 24th.
