The Auburn Riverside Ravens will head out on the road to square off against the Tahoma Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Auburn Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Auburn Riverside blew Stadium out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Stadium got their revenge. The Ravens fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 10-8. The Ravens' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Danica Butler was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mayah Cabatan-Flowers, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Tahoma had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 16-0 shutout. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Sienna Shulz was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Hammington, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one triple the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalani Higa, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Tahoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in ten consecutive games.
Tahoma pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Auburn Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Auburn Riverside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tahoma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Auburn Riverside might still be hurting after the 12-5 loss they got from Tahoma in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Ravens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
