The Liberty Bison will head out to challenge the Orange Vista Coyotes at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Orange Vista took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Liberty, who comes in off a win.
Liberty barely beat Poly the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bison were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bears on Thursday. Considering the Bison have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Janessa Guigliano tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jolie Tompkins, who fired off two home runs and one double while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Yasmine Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poly only posted an OBP of .273.
Meanwhile, Orange Vista came up short against Valley View on Thursday and fell 5-2. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lina Robles was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Orange Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Orange Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Liberty took their victory against Orange Vista in their previous matchup on April 10th by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bison since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
