The Heide Trask Titans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They strolled past Whiteville with points to spare, taking the game 58-44. Given Heide Trask's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Whiteville is ranked 490th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Heide Trask's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myron Mckoy led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine steals and seven assists. Mckoy is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Martez Davis, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Whiteville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Will Fisher. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fisher has scored all season. Amari Best was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Heide Trask has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Whiteville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.
Heide Trask will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against East Bladen at 7:30 p.m. East Bladen is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Whiteville, they will head out on the road to take on West Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully West Columbus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
