Wawasee and Concord are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will welcome the Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wawasee is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
On Monday, Wawasee came up short against Goshen and fell 7-4.
Melissa Bontrager made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Abbagail Willey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Concord sidestepped Warsaw for a 7-5 victory. The Minutemen haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Allison Ralston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Cassi Reames was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Janessa Bennett, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.
Wawasee's defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Concord, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Wawasee hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wawasee skirted past Concord 9-7 in their previous matchup on May 5th. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Minutemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
