Grant Sherman and it needed every one of them to defeat Bryan 46-43 in the third round of the Ohio Division IV state playoffs Friday.

Justin Sawmiller on an 11-yard pass with 21 seconds remaining to beat Bryan and keep Kenton undefeated at 13-0.

Sherman, who is officially listed in the National Federation of High Schools Record Book as the national record holder with 47 completions, had 56 completions in 78 attempts against Bryan. The total would appear to crush his old record, but it's not that simple. The Illinois state record is listed on the state association website as 56 completions by Billy Vandemerkt of Riverside-Brookfield (Riverside, Ill.) in 2008.
Sherman wasn't the only one setting records, however. Sawmiller caught 24 passes in the game, which ranks second for a single game in Ohio history, and he broke the single-season record for receptions with 147. Sawmiller broke the old mark of 142, held by former Kenton teammate Max Morrison.
Sawmiller had 165 yards receiving with two touchdowns in the win. Sherman threw for 486 yards and five touchdowns.
Sherman also went over 10,000 career yards. He has 5,452 yards and 63 touchdowns on the season. He has 10,427 yards and 119 touchdowns in his career.
Sawmiller has 147 catches for 2,124 yards and 22 touchdowns on the season. He is 11 yards away from breaking the state record for yardage in a season. His career numbers show him with 434 career catches for 6,059 yards and 59 touchdowns.
