Taylor Twitchell (2027) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Rivera (2026), who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kennedy Koskinas (2028) was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Granby never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Nansemond River. Considering the Comets have won 11 games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Menchville, Granby also got a great game from a two-way player: Kyrsten Wells. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Wells was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Granby let Anwynn Williams and Kya Harris run wild. Williams got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Harris got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Harris has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Pastorious, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Granby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Menchville's record now sits at 15-6. As for Granby, their record is now 18-4.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Menchville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Granby struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Menchville suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Granby in their previous matchup back in June of 2022. Can the Monarchs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
