The Newton Tigers entered their tilt with the Scott Central Rebels with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Newton walked away with a 36-28 win over Scott Central on Tuesday. Given Newton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Scott Central is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Scott Central still got an impressive performance from Mariah Bulter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Bulter hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Ashanti Murrell was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds.
Newton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Scott Central, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Bay Springs the next time they take the court. Newton will head out to face Bay Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while Scott Central will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
