Section 2 C - North recap September 17, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Granville, who defeated 387th ranked Corinth, 48-22. Jacob Young threw for 182 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
Dan Motzer and Brandon Barbera provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Watervliet. The connection went for 77 yards, the longest such play in Section 2 C - North this season.
Young put up the best numbers in passing as the Golden Horde beat the Tomahawks. Young's favorite target this week was Ronnie Taylor, who caught 4 passes for 79 yards.
Brandon Hodges was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Hoosick Falls lost to the Cannoneers. Garrett Wright also contributed to the rushing game with 29 yards on the ground.
Barbera was the best receiver in the league this week as the Bengals lost to Watervliet. Barbera racked up 3 receptions for 84 yards. David Bornt helped Tamarac's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 42 yards.
He went 8-12 with 1 interceptions.
Leading Section 2 C - North in both passing and receiving yards, Granville's Young and Taylor have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-7 quarterback Young has thrown for 295 yards this season, while Taylor has 10 catches for 115 yards. The Panthers' Hodges leads the league in rushing yards with 264.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Aaron Torres' team's Taylor goes up against Hoosick Falls' Levi Brewster.
Next week's game between the Golden Horde and Ron Jones' team will feature an aerial matchup as Young tests his arm against Brewster's defensive ability.
As it stands, the Panthers are in second, while Granville is in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when Hoosick Falls and the Golden Horde face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Panthers comes in having scored 88 this season, while Granville has scored 56. Hoosick Falls scored 40 points last week as it bested Mechanicville.
The Golden Horde scaled the state rankings by moving to 421 from 497 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Granville was able to make move up by beating Corinth 48-22.
