The Oxford Chargers will head out to challenge the Lewisburg Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford will be strutting in after a victory while Lewisburg will be coming in after a defeat.
Oxford can't be too worried about heading out to take on Lewisburg: they just beat Lafayette at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Commodores on Friday, sneaking past 3-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Chargers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Paisley Walls spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
On the hitting side, Mary-Claire King was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Lewisburg lost 10-4 to DeSoto Central on Tuesday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Lewisburg also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lexi Edmiston gave up six earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Lewisburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Abrams, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Leona-Klaire Stokes was another, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Lewisburg's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Oxford, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oxford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oxford might still be hurting after the 17-7 defeat they got from Lewisburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
