The Catoosa Indians lost against the Locust Grove Pirates back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Catoosa was outmatched by Locust Grove on the road and fell 70-34. While losing is never fun, Catoosa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Locust Grove is ranked 93rd).
Tinsley Mitchell and Jacquelyn Cornwell certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Mitchell scored 16 points along with five rebounds, while Cornwell scored 15 points. Mitchell scored a full 47.1% of Catoosa's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Catoosa struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Catoosa's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-3. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.1 points per game. As for Locust Grove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Catoosa will be home for the holidays to greet Verdigris at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Verdigris is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. As for Locust Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Oologah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
