Minnechaug Regional is 8-2 against East Longmeadow since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. On Friday, Minnechaug Regional got the win against Ludlow by a conclusive 12-6. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Kaelyn Dionne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julianna Mooney, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Abby Peyman, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Minnechaug Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ludlow only posted a batting average of .241.
Meanwhile, East Longmeadow had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Pope Francis Prep a 17-0 shutout on Thursday.
Riley McCauley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. McCauley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Amaya Carrion was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Angelina Leone was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
