The Mason Comets had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 55-47 win over Lakota East. That's two games straight that Mason has won by exactly eight points.
Mason found their leader in underclassman Anna Habra, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Riley Yost, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Several Thunderhawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Celina Blount, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Blount hasn't dropped below two blocks for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Katlyn Pham, who scored nine points.
Mason's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Lakota East, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mason's road trip will continue as they head out to face Sycamore at 1:45 p.m. on January 6th. Sycamore will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 367th, while Mason is ranked 23rd). As for Lakota East, they will head out on the road to face off against Middletown at 1:45 p.m. on January 13th.
