The Taft Eagles will head out to take on the Amundsen Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Amundsen took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Taft, who comes in off a win.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Taft duked it out with Whitnall on Saturday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Michaela Power made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 13 games.
In other batting news, Victoria Perez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Perez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Amundsen fell victim to Oak Park-River Forest and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Huskies, falling 12-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vikings have suffered since April 9th.
Taft is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Amundsen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Taft has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Amundsen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Taft's way against Amundsen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Taft made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
