The Gregory Gorillas were the 57-40 winner over the White River Tigers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gregory took a 62-47 bruising from the Tigers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Gregory can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Tigers are ranked 50th).
Several Gorillas players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dani VanderWerff, who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points VanderWerff has scored all season. Ashlyn Vosika was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Gregory's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for White River, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gregory will take on the Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for White River, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st. Hopefully Wall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Saturday.
