The Broadalbin-Perth Patriots will head out to face off against the Duanesburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broadalbin-Perth is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
On Monday, Broadalbin-Perth came up short against Amsterdam and fell 6-3.
Adrianna Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Broadalbin-Perth saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allee Jasewicz, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That run was Jasewicz's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Duanesburg was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on Canajoharie with a sharp 19-1 win. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Genevieve Rickert made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Duanesburg got a massive performance out of Harlee Manus, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Manus a new career-high. Jocelyn Menzies was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Duanesburg and bumps their season record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Broadalbin-Perth, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Broadalbin-Perth skirted past Duanesburg 12-11 in their previous matchup back in April of 2016. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
