The Barren County Trojans will head out to square off against the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Barren County came out on top against Russellville on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Trojans never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Kaitie Elmore was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Josey Moore, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Allen County-Scottsville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Glasgow on Monday as they made off with a 12-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the game before.
Addison Ausbrooks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Ausbrooks was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Allen County-Scottsville got a massive performance out of Jacie Rice, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Rice has posted since back in April. Payton Hopkins was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Allen County-Scottsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glasgow only posted an OBP of .214.
Allen County-Scottsville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Barren County, their record now sits at 16-6.
Both Barren County and Allen County-Scottsville just can't seem to miss. The Trojans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Allen County-Scottsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Barren County couldn't quite get it done against Allen County-Scottsville in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 10-7. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
