Even though the Middle Creek Mustangs have not done well against the Apex Friendship Patriots recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Middle Creek walked away with a 48-38 victory over Apex Friendship. The victory was nothing new for Middle Creek as they're now sitting on five straight.
Middle Creek was led to victory by Joi Pergerson and Alysia Pergerson. Pergerson scored 18 points along with five steals and three blocks, while Pergerson scored 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The matchup was Pergerson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Furst, who scored four points along with four steals.
Apex Friendship's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amelia Walls, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Emma Cyrus who scored six points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Middle Creek pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Apex Friendship, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Middle Creek will be home for the holidays to greet Athens Drive at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Athens Drive will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Middle Creek is ranked 137th). As for Apex Friendship, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Sanderson at 4:30 p.m. on December 20th.
