Maynard strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on the Blackstone-Millville Chargers with a sharp 7-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Will Molloy made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Molloy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other pitching news, Maynard got a great performance from Will Buchholz as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Buchholz has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Maynard let Liam Lawton and Alex Derobert run wild. Lawton went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Derobert got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Derobert has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Max Mandler was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Maynard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Maynard's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season. As for Blackstone-Millville, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
Coming up, Maynard will be playing at home against Clinton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 1.8, the Gaels 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Blackstone-Millville, they will head out to face off against Bromfield at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
