The Rootstown Rovers put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 84-25 victory over South Range. Considering Rootstown has won seven contests by more than 20 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Rootstown can attribute much of their success to Porter Smith, who scored 16 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Bittecuffer, who scored 12 points along with five assists and three steals.
Rootstown's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for South Range, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Rootstown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Alliance at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alliance will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 468th, while Rootstown is ranked 50th). South Range will finish 2023 at home by hosting Ursuline at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ursuline and South Range are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
