Chavez had won six straight home games dating back to last season and Joel Donnell did his part to make it seven on Friday. The Titans walked away with a 37-30 victory over the Escalon Cougars for which the team can thank Donnell, who rushed for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 97-yard run.
Chavez didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jimmy Ducksworth.
Despite the defeat, Escalon had strong showings from Logan Huebner, who threw for 201 yards and two TDs, and Dylan Ball, who gained 163 total yards.
Chavez's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Escalon, their record is now 1-1.
