The Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers will head out on the road to square off against the Centennial Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Cripple Creek-Victor took a blow against South Park, falling 65-13. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Burros are ranked 144th).
Rylee May was Cripple Creek-Victor's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Aubreanna Becker held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Centennial hadn't done well against Sangre de Cristo recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Centennial took down Sangre de Cristo 35-16. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Cripple Creek-Victor better keep an eye on Anai Medina. She was instrumental in Centennial's win, putting up 19 points and seven steals. The matchup was Medina's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Saphira Rael was another key player, earning three points in addition to 13 boards and three steals.
Centennial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Cripple Creek-Victor has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 4-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cripple Creek-Victor has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 28 boards per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cripple Creek-Victor came up short against Centennial in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 39-33. Can Cripple Creek-Victor avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
