On Saturday, the Peabody Warhorses faced the Wossman Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Peabody fell to the Wildcats 67-62. Peabody has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Peabody's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Mathews is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Garland, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Peabody's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-6. As for Wossman, their win was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-3.
Peabody will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grant has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29. As for Wossman, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
